and population density. In Toronto you have too, you need to drive like an asshole to get anywhere in that city.

Meh, don’t forget where I live... Population density in Toronto is really not that bad. I’m also French and driving anywhere near Paris doesn’t come close to driving in Toronto, aggressiveness-wise. WhenI used to live in Montreal, driving into Ontario was always a pain... I learned to hate the 401 very very quickly. Trucks and idiots, all the freaking time, non stop. Hated it lol

Every one hates the 401. I’m going to Hamilton tomorrow night, There are 2 possible ways: 401 (during rush hour), or side roads. I’ll probaly chose the 2nd option.

Car insurance in Ontario is a friggen cartel. It’s what happens when insurance is required by law and administered in private.

Part of the reason I didn’t own a car until I was 21 (now I’m 25 and have owned five and still have three) is because I had originally planned on settling in Oshawa and insurance in Ontario is prohibitively expensive. I got my first car (well, truck) after moving back to Manitoba. Currently I’m paying $110/month for a decent package on both the Niva and MJ. I just did a Kanetix quote with my old Oshawa address, and the best was $233/month for pretty well no coverage at all. This is after having my license for 7 years. Back when I was first looking, (as a teenager with very little driving history) single-vehicle quotes were well over that, in the $400/month range. At 21, a year of insurance on the MJ in Manitoba came to a total of $600, including registration. A few years after a speeding ticket, I’m back down to that again, and the Niva is something like $900, cause it’s a passenger vehicle, not a truck.

I pay lots/month. I wrote off 2 vehicles I did not own in under 1 month, some speeding tickets, and other stuff. I’m a much better driver now, but still pay the price.

Yeah. One of my coworkers here was happy last summer because he was finally able to convince MPI he actually lived in Manitoba now (he was from Ottawa), because he was more or less in the same boat as you (just maybe not quite as bad, although he can no longer legally drive in New York...) and his insurance went from what he had been making monthly payments to the payments staying the same but becoming only quarterly. That’s a 60% reduction in price, for much better coverage.

Depends on the car. A 2011 P7B in Ontario with a $300 comprehensive deductible is only about $400 more a year than my 1996 base-model in Kelowna. Also, Ontario doesn’t have to deal with the heinous and arcane organization known as CVSE *shudders*.

Yup. I didn’t have my first car until I was 23. My monthly rate was about $250 when I bought my 3. I live in the east end as well. It’s probably the one thing I hate most about this province.

I didn’t even think it was possible that she could be more incompetent than the person she replaced. Unfortunately, I was proven wrong.
